2012 Kia Sorento Stalls After Refueling: EVAP Purge Valve Repair in Tampa

The Problem: Stalling After Getting Gas
The reported concern was straightforward: after gasoline was added to the vehicle, the engine began to stall. The Sorento was driven to the shop the following morning without another noticeable problem.

How a Purge Valve Can Affect the Engine After Refueling
The EVAP purge valve controls when fuel vapors stored in the charcoal canister are allowed to enter the engine. If the valve does not operate correctly, excessive fuel vapor can potentially enter the intake at the wrong time.
A problem in this area can be especially noticeable immediately after the fuel tank has been filled, when fuel vapor conditions are changing. The result may include rough running, difficult starting, stumbling, or stalling after refueling.
Replacing the EVAP Purge Valve
Based on the diagnostic findings and the intermittent nature of the concern, the EVAP purge valve was replaced on the 2012 Kia Sorento.
After installation, the vehicle was road tested. The Sorento drove properly during the post-repair test, with no stalling concern observed.
Why Intermittent Problems Require Careful Diagnostics
This repair is a good example of why a warning light or trouble code is not always necessary for a vehicle to have a genuine drivability problem. In this case, the engine computer did not provide a stored fault code, and the suspected component was functioning during the initial check.
